About Me
I am a veterinarian practicing in Calgary, Alberta. We have a farm outside Calgary where we raise pedigree Bonsmaras, The herd's registered name is Thornbush Bonsmaras. The herd was founded from embryos imported from our herd in South Africa. The first calves were born in Alberta in 2005. The cows used for embryo collection were carefuly selected for excellence in conformation, temperment, performance testing data and BLUP values. The donor cows were specially inspected by the Bonsmara Breeders Society of South Africa for suitability for export. We plan to have pedigree Canadian Bonsmaras for sale in 2012. The quality of your Bonsmara is what is needed to move the breed foreward in North America, the fact that they are thriving in the Canadian climate also gives an indication of how well the breed adapts to a wide range of environments despite being primarily a heat tolerant composite. We need to post links to more performance data as there have been an increase in interest in the performance of the Bonsmara both in terms of breeding performance and feedlot efficiency.
Gordon, your cattle look good. we use some bonsmara semen in a cross breeding program.....but would like to use some new genetics....do you have any semen for sale thats exportable to the U.S.
